Renderings of what the historic Genesee Valley Park Olmsted Brothers bridges could look like if restored.

These bridges are a critical component in the park both aesthetically and practically as routes of circulation. Left for decades to decay with little repairs made, the bridges have languished and presumably would have continued to until they were condemned were it not for the efforts of the Rochester Olmsted Parks Alliance. Read more about the park and restoration efforts on my blog post here. I measured the bridges by hand and via satellite imagery before creating the model in Rhino and Lumion.

Fall and Spring 2024

Plans for the redesign of the northern walkway between ESF’s Moon Library entrance and Illick Hall in the quad. The plan improves circulation, increases biodiversity, reduces the heat island effect, and expands areas for student use. Documents were created in adherence to the class assignments.

Managed retreat has been in practice for decades in various forms but in recent years the catalyst has been changes in our climate. ESF’s Fall 2023 Studio IV worked with the N.Y.S. Department of State to research, analyze, and produce visualizations of what private property could look like after a state land buyout.

The work shown here proposes a constructed wetland complex within a larger scope of a residential and agricultural village along the eastern shores of Lake Ontario, NY. The shorelines of this lake have been experiencing an increase in heavy flooding and erosion due to seiche action and increased precipitation. For opportunities for public land use post-retreat, I proposed a dark sky reserve, the construction of large bat houses to provide habitat for the endangered Little Brown Bat, Lyotis lucifugus, the use of a native, historically significant willow species to create willow sculptures and increase tourism, and a wetland complex expansion for forebay overflows.

This is an excerpt of a 90 page studio project that generated a landscape analysis and design proposals for the newest owners and caretakers of the 11.26 acre Charles Estabrook estate in Syracuse, NY. Ecological restoration is intended to blend with the Arts and Crafts style of the historic Ward Wellington Ward home.
